KPU-Science World speaker series expands to Richmond

Richmond, B.C. – After a wildly successful first year of engaging and entertaining talks, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) and Science World are expanding their second annual speaker series to Richmond.

Six events from June to March will aim to engage, entertain and educate guests with fascinating insights into the world of science. Free and open to the public, four events will be held at the TELUS World of Science, and two at KPU Richmond’s Melville Centre for Dialogue.

“The inaugural year of the KPU-Science World speaker series was such a success that we are pleased to announce that we will be co-presenting year two of the series,” said Bryan Tisdall, president and CEO of Science World. “A love of science begins with engagement and this year’s presenters are sure to spark the natural curiosity within each of us about the science that is all around us.” 

The first event – hosted at Science World on June 7 – will feature KPU brew expert Alek Egi, who will take guests on a sensory tour of the malting and brewing process. Paired with his insights into the science behind beer will be complimentary beer tastings for guests of age.

The first event scheduled for Richmond will cover water rights and scarcity in the 21st century. 

“KPU is thrilled to bring research to community, and help shape what we understand science to be, from water rights in the 21st century to what artists and filmmakers can teach us about scientific visualization. It’s important to share this message with the public,” said Diane Purvey, dean of the Faculty of Arts.

“We’re excited to continue this series by exploring and discussing the many ways science informs and inspires us as individuals, communities and ecosystems. The topics that will be presented this year are very relevant to everyone,” said Dr. Betty Worobec, dean of the Faculty of Science.
