Ottawa, ON – Polytechnics Canada heartily welcomes Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) as its newest member.

“As an innovative and transformative institution that provides students with a rich and meaningful education, KPU is a natural and welcome addition to our growing national organization,” said Polytechnics Canada CEO Nobina Robinson.

Canada’s only polytechnic university, KPU has served the Metro Vancouver region since 1981, opening the doors to success for more than 200,000 learners. Through its four campuses—Richmond, Surrey, Cloverdale, and Langley—KPU offers a comprehensive range of programs in business, liberal arts, design, health, science and horticulture, trades and technology, and academic and career advancement. Over 19,000 students annually have a choice from over 120 programs, including bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates, citations and apprenticeships.

“KPU has a polytechnic mandate to equip students with the critical understanding, and social and ethical awareness necessary for good citizenship and rewarding careers,” said KPU president and vice-chancellor Dr. Alan Davis. “We’re proud to join Polytechnics Canada, which shares this commitment to experiential learning, applied research, and industry-aligned programs that allow students to link their studies to work and to local and global communities.”

Davis adds that KPU works closely with a variety of industries to support applied research and community engagement, particularly in the faculties of Science and Horticulture, Trades and Technology, and Design.

The polytechnic model of education enables students to choose among degree-level programming, certificate, diploma, apprenticeship and post-graduate credentials, and bring a high level of practical experience to the workforce.  Members of Polytechnics Canada are leaders in enabling industry innovation and are committed to student involvement in applied research.

Located in Canada’s key economic regions, the members of Polytechnics Canada are: British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Red River College, Conestoga, Sheridan, Humber, George Brown, Seneca, and Algonquin Colleges.
