Find your career in trades and technology at the KPU Tech open house on November 20. This is the first open house at the Cloverdale campus.
“At KPU Tech, thought meets action every day. Our trades programs and courses integrate theory with practical hands-on training to prepare our graduates for booming local and global industries,” says Kwantlen Polytechnic University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Alan Davis.
The BC Government estimates there will be 71,000 job openings in skilled trade in British Columbia over the next decade and it is celebrating Apprenticeship Recognition Week from Nov. 4 – 10 to support and recognize the need for skilled workers.
KPU Tech open house attendees will have the chance to learn about the different trades and find one that works for them. They will have the opportunity to tour the campus, explore workshops and classrooms, and learn first-hand from KPU experts and industry partners.
“This event is our chance to connect with the community and showcase everything KPU has to offer: from unique programs and innovative approaches to hands-on education, to the learning opportunities of the classroom,” adds Davis.
There will be demonstrations such as disassembling and reassembling a microwave. For future welders, there is an opportunity to try the virtual welding machine. Games such as ‘Choose your path’ will teach prospective students how to choose the right circuit on an electrical board or take a ‘What’s under your car’ challenge with the automotive service technician program.
There will be chances to enter a draw for the chance to win $500 tuition, or tickets to a Vancouver Canucks game or tickets to the Vancouver-based attraction FlyOver Canada.
The KPU Tech open house takes place from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20 at 5500 180 St., Cloverdale. Register to attend via the KPU website.
