Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) Art Collective is inviting the community to experience nearly 30 artworks created by fine arts students as part of an exhibition at Turnbull Gallery in South Surrey.
The Seeing Red exhibition features work from 17 students and alumni. The pieces displayed include different mediums and styles of visual art, including paintings, drawings, ceramics and photographs.
“We have students involved from all levels of the program, from first to fourth year,” says Kacey Hughes, KPU Art Collective President. “There’s a wide variety of pieces. There’s something for everyone in this show,”
To match the exhibition title of Seeing Red, every piece of art displayed prominently features the colour red in some form.
Each student interested in participating in the exhibition submitted a minimum of three art works, which were then juried by a committee composed of KPU faculty and staff.
According to Hughes, the exhibition has already drawn many viewers who have given positive feedback on their experience.
“People have appreciated the variety of work. They’re impressed by the quality of work coming from students, they’ve said a lot of our students’ work is quite professional,” says Hughes.
The exhibition is open to the public until Jan. 31 at the Turnbull Gallery inside the South Surrey Recreation and Arts Centre, 14601 20 Ave., in Surrey. Admission is free.
