Rules and Regulations

Sport and Recreation is committed to providing an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming space for patrons and employees. Behaviours deemed to violate the following rules and regulations can lead to disciplinary action including but not limited to warnings, suspension or termination of privileges. Additionally, Sport and Recreation reserves the right to escalate incidents to KPU Security, Student Rights and Responsibilities, the RCMP and/or KPU Administration as appropriate.

Facility Rules and Regulations

Fitness Centres

  • Members must check in at the Front Desk with their valid physical KPU ID. Alumni must also show valid government photo ID.
  • Athletic clothing, including shirts and shoes must be worn at all times. Denim, high heels, street wear, bare free, or sandals are not permitted.
  • No food or drink is allowed. Water in personal water bottles is permitted.
  • Offensive language, disorderly conduct, and/or abuse of staff or patrons will not be tolerated and will result in removal and ongoing restriction from the facility.
  • Disorderly conduct or unsportspersonlike behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in removal and ongoing restriction from the facility
  • Bicycles, skateboards, and scooters are not permitted into the facility for use or storage.
  • Users are responsible for all costs associated with any damages resulting from disorderly conduct or misuse, damage and loss of equipment.
  • All equipment must be returned after use.
  • Please store all belongings in a secured locker. KPU is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
  • Sport and Recreation facilities are scent free. Please refrain from using scented body lotions or sprays.
  • Rules and regulations are enforced at all times by department staff. Violators may be required to leave and or subject to ongoing restriction from Sport and Recreation facilities.
  • Please direct all questions, concerns, broken equipment and general maintenance issues to a staff person on duty.
  • No personal items are allowed to be stored at the front desk.
  • Participation while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or while in possession of weapons, drugs, and other illegal or banned items will not be tolerated.
  • All facility patrons must also abide by KPU’sCodes of Conduct (e.g., ST7 and SR8)

Additional for all Fitness Centres

  • Closed toe shoes must be worn at all times and in every area of the fitness centres. 
  • Do not drop or bang weights on the floor including but not limited to, medicine balls, kettlebells, dumbbells, and barbells
  • Return plates, dumbbells and bars to their proper location after use.
  • Wipe down all equipment and benches before and after use to be respectful of the next person using that piece of equipment.
  • Video and voice calls on mobile phones/devices/tablets are prohibited. 
  • Be courteous and allow others to work in with you.
  • Limit your time on the cardio machines to 30 minutes while people are waiting. .
  • No photography or video recording permitted.
  • Fitness equipment cannot be removed from the fitness centres.
  • Only use equipment on which you have been given proper instructions.
  • Use of personal powder chalk is not allowed in the fitness centres. 
  • No external or private personal training permitted.
  • No bags or personal belongings on the floor. Please store all belongings in the provided lockers or cubbies. KPU is not responsible for any lost or stolen items
  • Workouts must end 30 minutes prior to the schedule closing time of the Fitness Centre. 

Additional for the Surrey Gymnasium

  • Proper court shoes (Non-black soles) must be worn in the gymnasium.
  • Courts are based on a first-come first-serve basis. 
  • Chewing gum is not permitted.  
  • Video and voice calls on mobile phones/devices/tablets are prohibited.
  • No bluetooth speakers allowed. 
  • Abuse of equipment, including hanging on basketball rims and spitting, is strictly prohibited. 
  • Play must stop 30 minutes prior to the scheduled closing time of the Gymnasium.

Programs Rules and Regulations

Fitness Classes

  • Patrons must sign in at front desk before a class begins.
  • Individuals must sign a waiver prior to participating in specialized programs. 
  • Participants must wear appropriate clothing and footwear. 
  • Bullying, threatening and harassing behavior will not be tolerated. 
  • Participation while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or while in possession of weapons, drugs, and other illegal or banned items will not be tolerated.

Personal Training

  • Participants must have an intake consult prior to starting personal training. 
  • Participants must complete all the necessary waivers prior to starting their first session. 
  • Personal training clients must check in at the front desk prior to their sessions. 
  • Personal training fees must be paid ahead of sessions. 
  • A minimum of 24 hours’ notice must be provided to cancel sessions or a penalty fee will be charged. 
  • Participants must wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

  • Participation while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or while in possession of weapons, drugs, and other illegal or banned items will not be tolerated.

Intramurals

  • Treat all Intramural staff and participants with respect. Bullying, threatening and harassing behavior will not be tolerated. 
  • All participants must sign a waiver prior to the start of play.
  • Participants must wear appropriate clothing and footwear. 
  • Participation while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or while in possession of weapons, drugs, and other illegal or banned items will not be tolerated.

Drop-in Sports

  • A valid KPU ID is required to sign out any drop-in sport equipment from the front desk. 

Refund Policy

  • Refunds will not be provided once a program has started except in the following cases: 
    • Medical conditions which prevent the registrant from participating in a program or activity. (medical documentation from a licensed physician required) 
    • A registrant is moving and/or is no longer attending KPU. 

Payment

  • Sport and Recreation accepts Visa, Mastercard and Debit. 
  • Fees must be paid prior to the start of a program or service (I.e. Intramurals, fitness classes, personal training)

Lockers

  • Lockers are available at KPU Surrey for temporary storage of personal belongings while patrons are using the facility. 
  • It is recommended that patrons DO NOT bring valuables into the facilities. No valuables should be stored in lockers. 
  • KPU is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged personal items. Items stored overnight will be removed and sent to lost and found.
