Job Description

Our long-tenured Brewhouse Manager is moving on from BC's longest, independently-owned brewery, Pacific Western Brewing. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Brewhouse manager is a member of the brewery Management Team and is responsible for all phases of the brewing/RTD process, including brewing existing recipes consistently and to our high-quality ISO-certified, standards. This includes, but is not limited to quality control, concept development, health & safety, tank and equipment maintenance, production scheduling and leading a department of skilled employees. Duties & Responsibilities:      

  • Works with the PWB management team on a daily basis on operations scheduling, product development and special projects as required. 

  • Accountable for the mashing, fermentation, distillation, blending and quality control of our products, being meticulous to ensure a consistent high-quality product.

  • Ensures the brewhouse is operating optimally by reaching product-orientated KPI’s. 

  • Responsible for the proper inspections of department equipment/tanks and collaborates with the Operations Manager on preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of departmental equipment. 

  • Prepares and executes capital plans and budgets in respective areas. 

  • Schedules and supervises all stages of the brewing and RTD process to ensure they are completed on time and production targets are met. 

  • Maintains inventory controls for all materials and supplies related to the brewing process. 

  • Ensures proper safety and quality training of all Brewhouse and QA employees Working with the warehouse calculates and reports daily waste.

  • Calculates and reports all beer movement on a daily basis. 

  • Is a member of the joint health and safety committee and a member of the management union team. 

  • Attends promotional events as required. 

Staff Management: 

  • Provides leadership, direction, instruction, guidance and supervision to ensure that work completed is done safely, effectively and efficiently. 

  • Schedules and assigns work to brewhouse employees and ensures compliance with all applicable language within the union collective agreement 

  • Oversees the Brewhouse Steam Engineering and QA teams. 

  • Reviews payroll for the Brewhouse, QA and Engineering departments through Dayforce In partnership with Human Resources, appropriately addresses employees when performance falls below standard levels. 

  • Ensures consistent performance evaluation of departmental employees and supports performance improvement initiatives. 

  • Maintains a positive and cooperative work environment by implementing programs that boost morale and ensure effective teamwork

Experience & Skills: 

  • Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in brewing science or related field experience 

  • 7 years of minimum experience in a brewery/brewhouse, demonstrating consistent advancement and growth in responsibilities. 

  • Experience managing employees and directing work in a unionized environment. 

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieving established goals 

  • Strong knowledge of the brewing process including brewing techniques and quality control 

  • Methodical, logical and detail-oriented 

  • Ability to adapt, learn quickly, and operate in a fast-paced environment 

  • Strong problem-solving skills 

  • Strong health & safety focus

  • Experience in an ISO-certified organization

Pay Range: $80,000-$82,000
