Job Description

Prairie Sun Brewery is looking to hire a Head Brewer to take over all aspects of the brewing process. We are a microbrewery and restaurant located on Broadway Avenue in Saskatoon, Sk. We are looking for someone who is experienced and confident in all aspects of the brewing process, ensuring the production of high-quality and consistent craft beers. This role involves recipe development, brewing operations management, procurement and maintaining quality control standards and managing costs. 

Duties & Responsibilities:           

  • Develop and refine beer recipes, ensuring a diverse selection of craft beers, source ingredients and adjust recipes based on feedback, sales data, and industry trends. 

  • Conduct sensory testing with target consumers to validate current and new recipes 

  • Develop, maintain and flawlessly execute all relevant SOP’s impacting production, quality control and health & safety management 

  • Lead all areas of production including brewing, cellaring and packaging (kegging) 

  • Maintain brewing equipment, recommend upgrades as required and proper cleaning procedures 

  • Implement and oversee quality control procedures to ensure all beers meet the target spec of taste/bitterness, alcohol level, appearance, and safety. 

  • Manage inventory levels for raw materials, including malt, hops, yeast, and other brewing supplies. Develop and maintain relationships will all key vendors 

  • Monitor and control costs, based on budgets, related to brewing supplies and materials. 

  • Supervise and train brewery staff (1 other staff member), ensuring they are knowledgeable about brewing processes, quality control and safety protocols. 

  • Develop and manage brewing schedules to meet anticipated consumer demand and inventory levels. 

  • Provide a schedule for the brewhouse staff and communicate to all staff. 

  • Ensure all brewing operations comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations. 

  • Maintain accurate records of brewing activities, KPI’s, production volumes, and ingredient usage.

  • Network and collaborate within the craft brewing industry including participation at trade shows and industry events 

  • This position operates in a brewery environment within the restaurant and brewery. 

  • The role may require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. 

Experience & Skills:        

  • Degree from an accredited brewing school 

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in brewing with an equivalent size craft brewery 

  • Proficiency in MS Office (word and excel) 

  • Ability to proactively problem solve, communicate and operate well in a team environment.

Pay Range (hourly or salary): $50,000-$65,000 salary
