Job Description
The Plant Propagation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the propagation process of various plants, ensuring high-quality production and efficient use of resources. This role involves supervising a team, coordinating propagation activities, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Management: Supervise and lead a team of seasonal employees; Train and mentor staff in propagation techniques, plant care, and safety protocols; Schedule and allocate tasks to ensure optimal productivity and meet production targets.
- Propagation Processes: Oversee and manage the propagation of plants through seeds, cuttings, grafting, and other methods; Monitor and adjust environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and light to optimize growth; Implement and maintain best practices for plant propagation and care.
- Quality Control: Ensure high-quality standards in plant health and growth; Inspect plants regularly to identify and address any issues such as pests, diseases, or nutritional deficiencies; Maintain accurate records of propagation processes, plant health, and production metrics.
- Resource Management: Manage inventory of propagation materials, tools, and equipment; Order and maintain necessary supplies and materials for propagation activities; Optimize the use of resources to minimize waste and reduce costs.
- Sustainability and Innovation: Implement sustainable practices in tree production to minimize environmental impacts; explore and integrate techniques and technologies to improve production, efficiency and tree quality.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with local and provincial regulations related to plant propagation and handling; Enforce safety protocols and guidelines to protect staff and maintain a safe working environment; Stay updated on industry trends and advancements to implement new techniques and technologies. Ensure ergonomic compliance with job duties is met.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with others such as sales, production and owners to align propagation activities with overall company goals; Communicate effectively with team members, management, and external stakeholders; Prepare and present reports on propagation activities, progress, and outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Forestry, Agriculture, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in plant propagation or a related field, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
