Participating in the research grant program as a student research associate has been an invaluable experience. Through this program, I had the opportunity to engage in firsthand research, contributing to meaningful dialogue and solutions within the agricultural community. The support provided by the grant allowed me to attend the regional farmer dialogue hosted by the Institute for Sustainable Food Systems (ISFS), where I gained valuable insights into the challenges facing farmers in the Comox Valley due to drought. This experience not only deepened my understanding of climate-related issues in agriculture but also honed my research skills and methodologies. Collaborating with farmers and stakeholders during small group discussions provided a unique perspective, highlighting the importance of inclusive dialogue and collaboration in addressing complex challenges. As a student researcher, this experience has motivated me to continue exploring solutions that promote resilience and sustainability within farming communities. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity afforded by the research grant program, which has equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue further research endeavors in the field of agricultural sustainability.
