EXPERIENCE - Bring to your studies renewed depth, purpose and national/global awareness.
PROGRAM DETAILS
DESTINATION
ANTIGUA, GUATEMALA
HIGHLIGHTS
Students will get the opportunity to perform tasks in volunteer stations in Antigua, Guatemala. Equipment and facilities are basic, and some tasks may be observational due to the language barrier, however, other placements may be more hands-on depending on the placement and experience - some hands-on work might include: basic issues such as chronic pain, infected cuts, etc. There will be a day or two dedicated to infant and toddler care
There are also opportunities to take part in medical outreach campaigns twice a week. Campaigns take place in local villages, delivering basic medical care where it is not often available.
Potential placements might include:
- Providing basic checkups
- Distribution of medication
- Healthcare education – this is where students will design and deliver their project/education.
- Providing treatment where suitable
In addition to clinical and medical outreach experiences, the students will be able to design and deliver their NRSG 4710 Global Health Project (course requirement).
TOURS
Included in the package price are three (3) cultural experiences:
- Tour of Guatemala City
- Tour of Antigua
- Volcano Tour
