PANEL DISCUSSION ON CORE LITERACIES

Noon to 1:30pm
Surrey Conference Centre, Cedar 1205

The Panelists are:

  • Faith Auton-Cuff, Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts

  • Chris Traynor, ACP Instructor, Faculty of ACA

Discussion will focus on a document from Seneca College which outlines Seneca's Core Literacies and the framework they have developed for benchmarking learner achievement.  The implied questions are: 'Does the concept of literacies make more or less sense than essential skills in a University environment?' 'How do we map skills, literacies, and/or learning outcomes to courses and programs?' and 'How do all or any of these learning frameworks support transparency and student achievement?'

Seneca's Core Literacies is available for reading or download at http://www.senecacollege.ca/about/reports/annual-report/core-literacies…

Also available is a one-pager that charts National, BC Provincial, and KPU Essential Skills and the 10 Seneca College Literacies
