The Foundation in Entertainment Arts program gives you the core skills you need to pursue advanced studies in animation, visual effects (VFX), or game design. Through hands-on training you'll learn the fundamentals to prepare yourself for a future in the entertainment arts.
With courses in drawing, design, sculpting and more, you'll create expressive, dynamic and consistent works of art, while developing your technical knowledge using industry software and workflows. As a graduate of this program, you'll have a strong personal portfolio and be prepared for further studies in the entertainment arts.

Orpheus Hall, currently in their third semester of the Foundation in Entertainment Arts program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University entertainment arts, effortlessly navigates the creative spectrum. Who Studies Entertainment Arts?
Whether you're fresh out of high school or looking to make a career change, the Foundation in Entertainment Arts certificate provides students that don't have a portfolio, or sufficient experience to create one, with the skills and knowledge needed to start their entertainment arts education.
Our program is the only program in BC dedicated to developing visual arts skills with a specific focus on entertainment and digital arts. Graduating from this certificate program helps you to qualify for KPU's advanced entertainment arts diploma programs, although it is not a requirement of the diploma programs and completion does not guarantee entry into a diploma program.
Designed with a short, one-year completion time, this certificate program ensures you complete the curriculum as fast as possible for advanced studies, while providing you an intensive and comprehensive education.
Program Overview
We've designed designed the Certificate in Foundation in Entertainment Arts to produce production-minded artists who are ready to tackle advance entertainment arts programs in a range of disciplines in the entertainment arts, including animation, visual effects and game development
Through this full-time, one-year program, you'll explore concepts and develop skills in figure drawing, colour and design, improvisation and visual decision-making, and sculpturing. You'll also be introduced to industry software and learn the basics of modelling, texturing, lighting, animation and editing.
Career Outcomes
The Certificate in Foundation in Entertainment Arts prepares graduates for future study in advanced, diploma-level programs in 3D animation and 3D modelling, VFX and game development.
Graduates are also qualified for entry-level production work in the entertainment arts industry, as well as beginner-level jobs in traditional art, design or computer graphics.
Portfolio Requirements
Once you have completed your application, you will receive instructions on how to submit your portfolio. This program only requires a portfolio demonstrating a beginner level in art, design, or computer graphics with no prior credentials.
