English Language Studies
Foundations Level-Reading and Writing
Students at the intermediate level will learn and practice reading, writing and study skills in preparation for further studies in English for general communication or academic purposes.
Prerequisites: [(SLEP min. 40 or ENLT 0310 with a MAS) and Kwantlen's ESL Writing Assessment Band 3] or [TOEFL min. 400 and (TWE 2 or Kwantlen's ESL Writing Assessment Band 3)] or [Cb-TOEFL min. 97 and (Essay 2 or Kwantlen's ESL Writing Assessment Band 3)]
Foundation Level-Listening and Speaking
Students at the intermediate level will learn and practise listening and speaking skills in preparation for further studies in English for general communication or academic purposes.
Prerequisites: SLEP min. 40 or TOEFL min. 400 or Cb-TOEFL min. 97 or ENLT 0310 or ENLT Placement Test Level 4.
Intermediate Pronunciation
Students at the intermediate and upper-intermediate levels will work on improving the overall clarity of their speech. They will practise identifying, producing, and predicting English sound patterns accurately.
Prerequisites: SLEP min. 40 or TOEFL min. 400 or Cb-TOEFL min. 97 or ENLT 0310 or ENLT Placement Test Level 4
Intercultural Awareness and Communication
Students will develop an awareness of Canadian culture and the English language while living in a homestay placement. They will learn and practise effective communication skills to enhance intercultural awareness within the homestay environment.
Note: Students must be placed in an approved Kwantlen English-speaking homestay for the duration of the course
Prerequisites: SLEP min. 40 or TOEFL min. 400 or Cb-TOEFL min. 97 or ENLT 0310 or ENLT Placement Test Level 4.
An Introduction to Canada
Students at the upper-intermediate level will practise listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills by using fiction and non-fiction material about Canada.
Prerequisites: (SLEP 40-54 plus Kwantlen University College ESL Writing Assessment Band 3 or 4) or (TOEFL 400-499 /cb-TOEFL 97-172 plus TWE/Essay 2 or 3) or (Kwantlen University College ESL Writing Assessment Band 3 or 4)
Trades English 1
Students at the upper-intermediate level will learn and practise academic listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills. They will also practise functional language and non-verbal communication skills
English for Academic Purposes - Level 1
Students at the upper-intermediate level will learn and practise academic reading, writing, and study skills.
Prerequisites: (EASL 0055 or ELST 0041 with a B-) or ENLT 0510 with a B or ELST 0171 with a B- or (SLEP 47-53 plus Kwantlen's ESL Writing Assessment Band 4) or (TOEFL 450-499 plus TWE 3 or Kwantlen's ESL Writing Assessment Band 4) or

Academic Listening and Speaking Skills - Level 1
Students at the upper-intermediate level will learn and practise academic listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills. They will also practise functional language and non-verbal communication skills.

Trades English 2
Students will develop their English communication skills for entry into Appliance Servicing, Automotive-Industrial Trim, Automotive Parts and Light Warehousing, Automotive Service Technician, Millwright/Industrial Mechanic, Outdoor Power Equipment Technician, or Welding.
Prerequisites: ELST 0160 with B- or by designated assessment
Advanced Pronunciation
Students at the lower and upper-advanced level will learn and practice skills needed to improve speech clarity.

Grammar II
Students will learn how to identify and correct common grammatical and stylistic errors made by English as a Second Language learners. They will also develop strategies to expand their knowledge of idiomatic usage.
