Geology
These courses are reading and writing intensive.
Beginning students will enroll in GEOG 1120, a core course intended to introduce students to geology and physical geography. This course is equal to EASC 101 at SFU or three unassigned geology credits at UBC. During the second semester, students may couple GEOG 1120 with GEOL 1210. This sequence is equivalent to Geology 1205 at UBC or EASC 102 at SFU. The courses GEOG 1120 and GEOG 1110 are equivalent to Geography 1101 at UBC or Geography 111 plus EASC 101 at SFU. Students intending to enroll in the Earth and Space Science major in the Faculty of Education at UBC require GEOG 1120 and GEOL 1210.
Our Changing Earth
Students will study geologic history and paleontology of the Lower Mainland. They will apply elementary geologic principles to the interpretation of the geologic history of each location in at least seven locations. They will study paleontology with special emphasis placed on paleoclimatology and the evolution of vertebrates.
