Graduate Nurse Qualifying
GNQU 1100 cr-8
Mental Health
Students will explore the role of the nurse in the promotion of
mental health and in the care of clients with mental health
problems. They will focus on the promotion of optimal client
functioning. Students will complete a self-paced theory module, a
skills lab, an orientation to nursing in Canada and a mental health
nursing experience.

Obstetrics
Students will explore the role of the nurse with families prior to,
during and following delivery. They will study health promotion
and anticipatory guidance during the maternity cycle;
complications and deviations that may occur and available
community resources. Students will complete a self-paced theory
module, a psychomotor skills lab, an orientation to nursing in
Canada and an obstetrical nursing experience preceptorship.

Pediatrics
Students will explore the role of the nurse in caring for children
with emphasis on the effects of illness and treatment on a child and
the family, stages of growth and development. They will complete
a self-paced theory module, a psychomotor skills lab, an
orientation to nursing in Canada and a pediatric nursing
experience.
GNQU 1300 cr-5
Mental Health Theory
Students (nurses educated in other countries who have insufficient
educational experience) will explore the role of the nurse in the
promotion of mental health and in the care of clients with mental
health issues. They will focus on the promotion of optimal client
functioning. Students will complete a self-paced theory module.
Students (nurses educated in other countries who have insufficient
educational experience) will be placed in a mental health setting
with a preceptor. They will apply knowledge and skills necessary
for current nursing practice.
CPR Level C current throughout GNQU 1305, TB screen, Criminal Record
Search within 6 months prior to registering in GNQU 1305.
GNQU 1310 cr-5
Maternal/Child Theory
Students (nurses educated in other countries who have insufficient
educational experience) will explore the role of the nurse with

educational experience) will be placed in a obstetric setting with a
preceptor. They will apply knowledge and skills necessary for
current nursing practice.

Pediatric Theory
Students will explore the role of the nurse in caring for children.

development.
