DESCRIPTION

This program covers the theory and practical skills required by a custom furniture upholsterer. Students are taught how to use hand and power tools, layout, match materials, plus mark and cut to a particular design or style.

Students learn to use sewing machines, cements, glues, buttons and tufting, and how to estimate jobs, and make good business practice decisions. For further information you can check out the Trades website at www.kwantlen.ca/trades

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Employment opportunities may be found with furniture manufacturers, department stores, furniture refinishing, and recovering firms. Many graduates have started their own businesses.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Students must have completed BC High School graduation (or equivalent) or be 19 years or older at the time of the start of classes in addition to:

  • Adequate reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen

  • Interview with instructor

  • Students who may have concerns with the physical, intellectual or emotional demands of this program should contact the Program Coordinator to discuss required skills and competencies, and a Disability Advisor at 604.599.3233 to ensure appropriate accommodations can be arranged.

  • Due to the nature of this program, students should have satisfactory physical health.
