Textile Studies for Teachers: Pattern Drafting & Garment Construction
Students will practice, assess, and update classroom techniques in pattern drafting and manipulation, and garment construction. They will develop patterns for one top (hooded sweatshirt, vest, blouse or simple jacket) and one bottom (skirt or pants) to be produced as full-scale garments. Students will use a wide range of garment construction techniques.
Note : This course, offered as part of a certificate in collaboration with UBC, is designed for teachers of secondary and post-secondary textiles studies who want to strengthen their knowledge in the area, or for teachers who want to develop expertise for the teaching of textiles studies.
Prerequisites: Teacher training or teaching experience in secondary Home Economics or post-secondary Fashion or Clothing & Textiles and sewing experience

Textile Studies for Teachers: Computer Applications for Textile Studies and Fashion Design
Students will learn to use a variety of computer programs that can be applied in their high school classroom. Emphasis will be on using Photoshop® ® to manipulate fashion images, create story boards and develop fabric prints. They will use CADterns® software to draft personally fitted basic garment pattern blocks. Students will also explore the Internet to develop research skills and find suitable websites for teaching costume history, textiles, design, and merchandising. Students will compile course work into a PowerPoint® presentation.
Note: This course, offered as part of the Textile Studies certificate in collaboration with UBC, is designated for teachers of secondary and post-secondary textile studies who want to develop expertise for the teaching of textile studies. Students enrolled or planning to enroll in Home Economics Education may take this course. Basic computer skills required.
