Computer Information Systems Certificate
DESCRIPTION
The Computer Information Systems Certificate Program offers a unique practitioner-oriented approach to systems support and software development. Computer Information Systems courses are offered by the Computing Sciences and Information Systems department.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Effective September 2010 students admitted to this program must commit to a fulltime schedule as follows (all courses are mandatory):

- CISY 1105 PC Hardware and Applications
- CISY 1113 Principles of Program Structure and Design
- CISY 1212 Systems Analysis and Design
- ACCT 1230 Business Statistics OR BUQU 1230 Business Statistics. Note: Students may earn credits for only one of ACCT 1230 or BUQU 1230
- CMNS 1140 Introduction to Professional Communication
Spring Semester (All of)
- CISY 1213 Operating Systems Principles and Applications
- CISY 1215 Enterprise Networking
- CISY 1218 Internet Application Development
- CISY 2411 GUI and Object-Oriented Programming*
- BUSI 1215 Organizational Behaviour I
*Note: Students accepted into the CISY program prior to September 2010 and who have taken CISY 2311 can use CISY 2311 instead of CISY 2411 to meet program requirements.
Students admitted to the program prior to September 2010 will still be eligible to complete the certificate using ANY 3 of the following courses as the non-CISY requirements:

Note: Courses are offered at Surrey campus on a full-time basis. It is important to ensure work and personal schedules can accommodate the posted schedule times prior to committing to the program.
Pursuing the Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology (BTECH) Degree Program
Upon completion of the Computer Information Systems Certificate (CISY) program, students are encouraged to pursue the BTECH (IT) degree program to strengthen their IT skills, and broaden their career options. The BTECH program can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. Courses are scheduled at times that try to accommodate the needs of students who work during the day. Students interested in the Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology (BTECH) should consult a School of Business Advisor for course planning assistance.
Graduates of the CISY certificate program can meet BTECH degree entry requirements with the completion of an additional 30 credits (total 60 credits) of coursework that includes:
- CISY 2314 Database Management Systems (3 credits) PLUS
- Nine additional courses from ANY discipline (27 credits). Note: ENGL 1100 Writing, Reading and Thinking: An Introduction (3 credits) is strongly recommended as one of the nine courses
- A minimum GPA of 2.7

GRADUATION
Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to receive a Certificate in Computer Information Systems.
