Apprenticeship
The Electrician apprenticeship requires apprentices to complete four levels of technical training each 10 weeks in length and 6000 hours of work-based training. For additional information on apprenticeship training refer to the Apprenticeship Technical Training section in this calendar.
Electrical apprenticeship training will be a new venture for Kwantlen. In 2008 Kwantlen will start with Level 1 and 2 technical training. These ten week sessions have been planned for October 2008 and January 2008.
Description
An Electrician has the expertise (knowledge and skills) to read and interpret electrical, mechanical and architectural drawings. They understand electrical codes specifications to determine wiring layout. They cut, thread, bend, assemble, and install conduit and types of electrical conductor enclosures. Job tasks focus on providing lighting, heat, communications and power within residential, commercial and industrial structures.
Technical training content for level 1 consists of electrical safety fundamentals, DC circuits, electromagnetism & applications, meters & test equipment, electrical prints & drawings, AC motors controls, electrical code & wiring and industrial power electronics.
Technical training content for level 2 consists of AC Fundamentals, meters & test equipment, single phase AC circuits, circuit protector devices, single phase transformers, AC motor controls, lighting, industrial power electronics and electrical codes & wiring.
