Are you a home brewer that's been brewing other people's recipes but wanting to create your own or improve your home-brewed beers? Magic can happen with just four simple ingredients! Join us for an introduction to basic beer recipe design for people with some home brewing or very limited brewing experience.

This online, asynchronous course will consist of six segments ranging between 35 and 70 minutes in length. This course will cover the basic calculations to determine the amount of water, malt, hops, and yeast to produce a specified quantity of beer.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion after finishing the full course.

Alek is an award-winning brewer, malting expert, and professional beer judge with a passion for the science and artistry of beer. With a background in engineering and science, he brings a detail-driven approach to brewing, always focused on how every step in the process can impact the final product. As an instructor for Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) Brewing and Brewery Operations Diploma, Alek is dedicated to sharing his expertise, helping students grasp the intricacies of brewing and sensory analysis. He believes in the power of creativity and innovation in the brewing process, and thrives on meeting the high standards set by the ever-evolving craft beer industry. Whether crafting beers or judging competitions, Alek’s pursuit of the next "majestic pint" is fueled by his love for both the technical and creative aspects of beer.

Alek is a member of the MBAA (Master Brewers Association of the Americas), the ASBC (American Society of Brewing Chemists), and has served as a judge for various beer competitions. He has also written academic articles about brewing and malting for the Journal of the ASBC and previously served on their Editorial Board, as well as having written for the MBAA Technical Quarterly, and given lectures at the BMBRI Triennial Barley Meeting in and the MBAC Ontario Technical Conference.
