Description:

Get your hands dirty in this brewing basics for hobbyists course!

An introduction to the brewing process for individuals with little to no brewing experience, providing an engaging intro to the art and science of brewing.

Students are required to dress appropriately while in the brewery wearing CSA-approved footwear (e.g., steel-toed work boots or gum boots), long-sleeve shirts, pants, and safety eyewear, and may be required to wear a face mask. This course is the perfect starting point for anyone interested in homebrewing or just curious about how beer is made!

Day 1:

  • Brewery safety and an overview of the brewing process

  • Hands-on "water brew" on KPU's Small Brewing Systems—a higher-end version of a home brewing system—offering a practical introduction to brewing equipment and techniques

Day 2:

  • Spend the day brewing a batch of beer following a recipe provided by the instructors.

  • Dive deeper into the brewing process, getting hands-on experience from the start of a brew to creating wort.
