The ISFS organized a field day in the Comox Valley with Oregon-based dry farming expert Andy Gallagher in May 2024. The field day was attended by 30 participants, who visited three local farms with diverse soil conditions: Yellow Boot Farm, Amara Farm, and Rimrose Dairy. At each site, Andy performed dry farming site suitability assessments, discussing the relationship between soil texture, structure, and water holding capacity and deepening participants’ knowledge and understanding of the opportunities and limitations for dry farming on Vancouver Island.
