CBSY 1105 - INTRODUCTION TO MICRO-COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
This course introduces personal computer (microcomputer) application software. It provides an introduction to computer concepts and detailed instruction in the use of personal computer operating systems, spreadsheet software, presentation software, and word processing software. In addition an introduction to e-mail and web browser software will be given. The use of business-oriented examples, in a hands-on environment, will enable students to apply concepts as they learn. The current software packages in use are Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Office 2003 and MS Internet Explorer.
CBSY 2205 - COMPUTERS AND INFORMATION PROCESSING
This course will present an up-to-date view of the basic concepts, components, and applications of business computer systems. Topics will include computer hardware and software, data management, telecommunications, Internet, business information systems, systems analysis and design, ethical and security issues. Microcomputer applications will be integrated into the course content.
CBSY 2305 - ADVANCED MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATIONS
Students will identify and solve business problems using database, spreadsheet, and accounting software. The students will research business opportunities, write project descriptions, develop ae project using the application software, prepare user documentation and present the results in a written form. The current packages in use are Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and CA Simply Accounting.
CBSY 2310 - ADVANCED MS OFFICE AND INTERNET
Students will learn to identify business problems and solve them using database, spreadsheet, word processing tools, Web page development and Internet browser software. They will integrate the various current software components of Microsoft Office™, FrontPage™ and Internet Explorer™/Opera™ /Mozilla™/Netscape™ in solving these problems.
OBJECTIVES:
A student who successfully completes the course will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- use advanced techniques and strategies for a variety of microcomputer software
- develop microcomputer information systems to solve business problems
- integrate applications software
- research and integrate information from the internet
- create and revise Web pages
CBSY 2405 - ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Students will acquire a basic knowledge of computer-based information systems, how they are developed and managed, and their role in the performance of accounting functions.
CBSY3100 - ETHICS IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Students will study a variety of ethical and technology topics such as e-commerce, privacy, Internet issues, surveillance, intellectual property, etc. They will acquire knowledge of the theory and practice of business ethics in relation to information technology (IT). Students will also examine social, political, ethical, moral, philosophical and legal issues that arise with the use of computer technologies.
