Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has crafted something new for home brewers, brewing enthusiasts, and aspiring brewers with little-to-no experience.
“We’re thrilled to announce the expansion of our continuing education offerings with three new brewing courses,” says Amy Jeon, Dean pro tem, Faculty of Science. “These offerings give learners the opportunity to explore new topics and deepen their knowledge at their own pace.”
These three new Continuing and Professional Studies courses — Essentials of Beer Tasting and Serving, Recipe Design for Beer Enthusiasts and A Taste of Wort Production — are designed for anyone passionate about beer who wants to learn the finer points of brewing. Courses are delivered online with students encouraged to review course materials at their own pace, on their own schedule.
“Through these courses students will build a solid foundation, gaining valuable insights into the technical aspects of beer tasting, serving, recipe design and production to further their brewing careers or enhance their personal expertise about beer,” says Alek Egi, KPU Brewing and Brewery Operations diploma program instructor.
Course start dates are staggered, allowing students to take the courses in series starting Oct. 2. But students can also take each course independently. Each section includes quizzes to help reinforce coursework, plus students get additional resources to support and expand on topics covered.
“Under the guidance of Alek, our brewmaster and sensory expert, students will experience KPU Brewing’s award-winning education, making this a fantastic opportunity to discover something new or elevate their skills in the art of brewing and beer tasting,” says Jeon.
Students receive a certificate of completion from KPU’s Faculty of Science for each course they successfully complete. Visit Continuing and Professional Studies for more information.
