TENTATIVE SCHEDULE: On this tour we will visit three teaching farms that specialize in sustainable, small scale, community focused, urban and peri-urban farming and direct marketing, and underpin the novel place-based food system focused extension and undergraduate education programs of the Institute for Sustainable Food Systems and the Sustainable Agriculture Degree Program, respectively, at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Two of these applied research and education farms were conceptualized, developed and now operate in partnership with a municipal government and community food system actors, and the third with a First Nation government and community. Discussion will highlight the development of KPU's agricultural education programming and these teaching farms integral to them; including relationship building between local government, academic institutions, community organizations and Indigenous communities. Sites are located in the Metro Vancouver area. The tour will include a BBQ lunch featuring foods produced by KPU program students on these farms. Bus transport provided.
Bursaries - Application Deadline May 1st - BURSARY APPLICATION NOW CLOSED.
The bursary application period is now closed. Successful applicants will be notified before May 10th.
A limited number of bursaries are available to contribute to travel/registration/accommodation expenses for eligible participants (value $500). Bursaries will be awarded on an application basis. Applications can be submitted HERE. Successful applicants will automatically receive the ACCESS registration fee and need not apply for access registration fee. Application deadline for the first round of bursaries is May 1st.
We are actively seeking support to provide additional bursaries. Should additional bursaries be secured, we will open applications again after May 7th.
