The Okanagan Bioregion Institutional Procurement Study undertakes a gap analysis and opportunities study for bringing local food into governmental institutions. The study explores how successful local procurement initiatives can be established in the Okanagan bioregion. The main objectives of the project are to:
- Assess current capacity of local primary crop and livestock producers
- Assess current post production capacity • Identify the institutional food procurement supply chain through case studies and assess economic opportunity, procurement logistics and gaps
- Investigate the role of a food processing innovation centre in increasing institutional procurement of local food
- Identify other supports needed to increase local food procurement in the region.
