British Columbia Legislative Internship Program
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia is currently accepting applications for the B.C. Legislative Internship Program. Celebrating its 45th annivartary in 2021, the program provides recent university graduates of any discipline with first-hand experience in our parliamentary system. Students typically apply for the program during their final year of study.
Program Highlights:
During the program, B.C. Legislative Interns contribute directly to the work of the executive and legilative branches of government. It is expected that Interns will:
- Learn about the mandate and scope of a ministry, conduct research in policy and planning areas and even assist with projects related to legislation.
- Provide Members of the Legislative Assembly with additional assistance during the parliamentary session. This may include weiting speeches and private members' statements, assisting with the estimates process and drafting questions for Question Period.
- Gain exposure to public-policy making and legislative process.
- Attend Question Period and parliamentary committee meetings.
- Meet with cabinet ministers, private members, permanent officers of the Legislative Assembly, statutory officers, members of the Parlimentary Press Gallery, senior public servants, academics, stakeholders and rights holders.
- Acquire practical skills and knowledge that can be applied in future work and educational settings.
- Contribute to greater public understanding of our parliamentary system.
