Financial Managers are not restricted to any specific type of
industry, management level or country. All organizations have
financial information processing needs.
Future financial management careers include
Auditors

graduates use the program courses as exemptions toward one of
the professional accounting programs (CA, CGA or CMA).

Bachelor of business Administration (BBA) in
Accounting
Offered at Richmond and Surrey Campus
Full and Part-time start for third and fourth year students.
Start date: January, May and September Semester
Limited Enrolment
Description
The Bachelor of Business Administration Program provides full
and part-time intensive study for students wishing to earn a
business degree from Kwantlen University College.
This degree is an appropriate goal for students who want to study
beyond a diploma and their initial two-year equivalent post
secondary education. Students enter the program after successfully
completing an accounting diploma from a recognized college,
institute or university with a minimum of 60 credits and a
cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher. This program then offers the
third and fourth years of the degree program.
The BBA degree program provides advanced accounting, business
and leadership training. It integrates skills and concepts learned in
different functional areas of business.
Students acquire:
Technical business skills through subject specific studies;
General success skills identified by employability skills studies; and
Better understanding of human society and how to contribute to it through liberal education studies.
Degree classes are scheduled for days, evenings and weekends to
allow students to either further their education while maintaining
current employment or as a full-time student.
Some unique features of this program are:
Graduates who have applied and practiced employability skills. Examples of how this will be achieved include practicum, learning partnerships with business, applied projects and assignments and ongoing work experience;
Prior learning assessment allows individuals with appropriate work experience to further their education in their own community. These will mainly be mid-career individuals looking to enhance professional qualifications;
Full block transfer of credits from recognized college and university programs;
Student exit/re-entry flexibility. A student can complete the program at his or her own pace.
Professional development for individuals seeking higher-level training.
Options: Regular and Co-op Mode
Students may graduate from either the regular Bachelor of Business
Administration degree mode or the optional Co-operative
Education mode. Students applying for Co-op must complete all
prescribed courses with a cumulative GPA of a least 3.0.
In order to receive a Co-operative Education designation, the
following criteria must be met in addition to the 120 credit hours of
course work:
Satisfactory completion of two four-month work terms.
Please contact the Accounting department within the School of
Business for more information on the Co-op option.
Career Opportunities
In Canada, a degree is now a mandatory prerequisite to the
awarding of an accounting designation. Similar requirements are
being implemented in other countries that have professional
governing bodies.
In the past few years BC has experienced an employment growth
rate of over 40% for auditors, accountants and investment
professionals. By 2005 industry analysts project in excess of 9500
job opportunities in the accounting and finance areas. Similar
trends are evident throughout Canada and the United States.
Admission Requirements
Students enter the program in the third year, upon completion of
two years of study. The admission requirements are met by one of
the following:
completion of an accounting diploma from a recognized college, institute or university, with a minimum of 60 credits and cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher, or;
the awarding of a professional designation from CA, CGA or CMA. Applicants in this category will qualify for advanced standing in the degree program through a combination of transfer credit and Prior Learning Assessment or;
completion of some, or all, of the education requirements of CGA, CMA or CA leading to a professional accounting designation. Applicants in this latter category may qualify for advance standing in the degree program through a combination of transfer credit and Prior Learning Assessment. You may be required to first complete a Kwantlen Accounting Diploma depending on the level of completion of your professional studies.
Note: As of September 2002, a first year English course (excluding
ENGL 1099) is a requirement for graduation for all Kwantlen
degrees. Students registering in the BBA program, after September
2002, must also complete this requirement.
Admission requirements - Simplified
Because Accounting expertise is essential, completion of an
Accounting Diploma (60 credits) from a recognized post-secondary
institution with a GPA of 2.7 is required as a program prerequisite.
There is no Bridging Program. Accounting professionals (CA,
CGA or CMA) may qualify for admission. Such applicants should
contact the Chair of Accounting Programs for further information.
Call David Sale at 604.599.2167 for information about the BBA
Accounting or Gordon Fisher at 604.599.2507 for information
about the Accounting Diploma.
Content
The degree program will require a minimum of 120 semester credit
hours. This includes the initial two years of post-secondary
education equal to 60 credit hours.
The third and fourth year courses are rigorous and demanding.
Prior to registering, students should carefully consider the time
requirements of part-time versus full-time study based on their
individual work and personal situation.
Students satisfying the first year English requirements in year 3 or 4
will require 123 credits for graduation purposes.
Years 3 and 4
You are able to exit and enter the final two years of the program as
your needs change. Refer to the admissions section of this calendar
for dates, deadlines and procedures for re-applying.
Degree studies in years three and four are based on the following
minimum number of courses in the accounting, entrepreneurial
leadership and liberal education areas:
ENGL 1100 or 1110 1 course
(not required if English taken in Diploma)
Accounting Courses 6 courses

You must complete all the required courses to graduate, but you are
not required to do them in the stated order. You may take longer
than a year at each level if you prefer to study part-time. (The
course prefixes represent the general focus of the course with
ACCT indicating accounting courses and ENTR meaning a
concentration in entrepreneurial skills. All courses are three credit
hours unless otherwise stated.)
Students are required to have six additional third or fourth year
Accounting or Entrepreneurial courses. At least three must be
Entrepreneurial courses.
Liberal Education Courses

is a graduation requirement for all Kwantlen University College

must take ENGL 1100 or 1110 (or equivalents) in addition to the
above courses resulting in 123 credits being required to graduate.
