English as a Second Language
The following three courses were designed to meet the needs of
students enrolled in the Graduate Nurse with English as an
Additional Language (GNEAL) program.
All other EASL courses have been converted to ELST courses.

EASL 1100 cr-3.5
English Upgrading for Grad. Nurses I
Students will learn the reading, writing, listening, and speaking
skills necessary for the provision of effective nursing care. They
will remediate language skill deficiencies, learn effective study
skills, and prepare for standardized language proficiency
examinations such as the Test of Spoken English (TSE), the Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International
English Language Testing Service (IELTS). Students will learn and
practice team skills.
Students will build on the reading, writing, listening, and speaking
skills acquired in EASL 1100. They will apply their skills to a
broader range of topics and intensify their level of critical response.
Students will further extend their control of medical terminology
and continue to prepare for standardized language proficiency
examinations such as the Test of Spoken English (TSE), the Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International
English Language Testing Service (IELTS) as needed. In
additional, students will prepare for employment by creating a
resume and practicing job interview skills.
Students who have not achieved program goals for language
proficiency will study materials suited to their identified needs.
Students who have achieved program goals for language
proficiency will carry forward the mark received in EASL 1200.
