The Startup Finances course will equip aspiring entrepreneurs and early-stage startup founders with the essential knowledge and skills to navigate the complex landscape of startup finances. From crafting solid financial strategies to securing funding, participants will delve into topics such as financial modeling, budgeting, cash flow management, valuation techniques, investor pitching, and alternative funding sources. Through practical and interactive exercises, students will gain insights into assessing financial viability, optimizing resource allocation, mitigating financial risks, and building a compelling financial narrative.
This course is eligible for funding through the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant.

Afshin Doustmohammadi is an accomplished entrepreneur and business leader with expertise in consulting, technology, and finance. He has founded and led multiple startups, guiding them in securing investments, fostering strategic partnerships, and driving growth. As the founder of Gateway Global Consulting, he advises businesses on strategy, change management, and growth readiness, while also mentoring founders and executives to maximize their potential.
Afshin co-founded Ph7 Technologies, a venture-backed company providing sustainable methods for extracting strategic metals for renewable energy, recognized with national and international awards. As former CEO of Advanced Intelligent Systems, he developed innovative robotics solutions addressing labor challenges, promoting a culture of teamwork and innovation.
In addition, Afshin founded Hera Investment Funds, known for secure investments and consistent returns. He actively supports emerging entrepreneurs through angel investing and mentoring at Creative Destruction Labs and the Niagara Business & Innovation Fund. Afshin teaches entrepreneurship at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’ Melville School of Business, equipping students with essential skills for today’s business environment.
