The University Diversity and Equity Committee (UDEC)

About UDEC

The University Diversity and Equity Committee is a group dedicated to furthering the goal of diversity and equity within the KPU community. Overseen by the Office of Equity and Inclusive Communities, UDEC is chaired by the President and Vice Chancellor, Dr. Alan Davis, and co-chaired by VP, Equity and Inclusive Communities, Dr. Asma Sayed. The committee is made up of a diverse array of individuals and representatives and aims to link diversity and equity initiatives with policies and procedures. The UDEC Sponsorship Fund provides us with the opportunity to sponsor initiatives and activities that benefit the KPU community.

By identifying issues, establishing goals and strategies, UDEC endeavors to ensure that KPU provides learning and working environments that are inclusive and supportive for all members of the KPU community.

UDEC generally meets monthly, and if you are interested in meeting us, please contact udec@kpu.ca. We look forward to hearing from you.

History of UDEC

Originally, established in 2015, as the President’s Diversity and Equity Committee (PDEC), the committee was formed after students advocated for a forum to discuss equity and diversity across campus. The President, Dr. Alan Davis, formed PDEC and has served as the Chair since then. The committee was initially co-chaired by Dr. Diane Naugler. In 2016, Dr. Romy Kozak began supporting the committee as co-chair until April 2024.

As of September 2024, PDEC changed its name to UDEC to reflect its transition under the leadership of OEIC.
