The requirements for completing an apprenticeship as a bricklayer is 5000 hours of on-the-job training, five weeks of technical training in levels 1, 2 and 3. Bricklaying/Masonry is a red-seal trade. Refer to Red Seal for additional information on red-seal trades.
Graduates from the masonry citation ELTT twenty week Kwantlen Polytechnic University program will acquire credit for the first level of technical training.
After completing the masonry citation ELTT program individuals will need to acquire employment in the field. Several employers in the lower mainland are actively involved in training apprentices. Individuals wishing to identify employers who are hiring would be able to acquire up-to-date information from their instructors or by referring to employment websites – Workopolis. The Masonry Association of BC is also actively involved in assisting graduates from Kwantlen in acquiring employment. Once an individual has employment and is a registered masonry apprentice the expectation will be to complete 5000 hours of on-the-job training as well as, return to the Masonry Institute Training association to complete two additional levels of technical training. Once an individual has completed the three levels of technical training in the masonry field, the completion of 5000 hours of on-the-job training and achieved a 70% or higher on the Inter-provincial bricklaying/masonry examination under the guidelines of apprenticeship training they would receive a
