How to Migrate Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator to a new phone?

This method only works if you still have the authenticator app on your old phone and wants to transfer it to your new phone. 

If you have lost, damage or reset your phone (no physical access to your old phone), please contact KPU IT Service Desk at 604-599-2116 or servicedesk@kpu.ca

  1. Login to aka.ms/mfasetup with your KPU credentials and approve the sign-in notification sent to Microsoft Authenticator app on your old phone.

  2. Click on “Add sign-in method”, select “Microsoft Authenticator” option (as shown in the below screenshot), and follow the prompts to setup the app on your new phone. Detailed instructions on how to setup the app is provided at Setup Microsoft Authenticator App page on our KPU website.

If you have previously setup Google authenticator app on your old phone and would like to keep the same app on your new phone:

  1. Click on “+Add sign-in method” and select the Microsoft Authenticator app option as shown in the above screenshot.
  2. Follow the steps provided at Setup Google Authenticator App 

Once the app is setup on your new phone, delete the old authenticator app method from the “Security Info” page but keep the new registered one.
