Pushing Back Against Procrastination
In this workshop, you will learn how to identify key characteristics of different types of procrastination, analyze your syllabus to create a realistic schedule for when you will get assignments done, analyze your assignment sheet in order to break down an assignment into manageable chunks, create a plan to get your assignment done in small pieces during your available time and use the Pomodoro technique as a way to overcome procrastination.
Reflective Writing

In this workshop, you will quantify the ways in which you currently spend your time and identify an ideal "time budget" for priority activities. Building Effective Study Habits
Master Your Memory
Would you like to remember more effectively, while using your study time more effectively? In this workshop, you will learn how memory works and ideal strategies for remembering more of what you learn. You will also be able to experiment with new techniques, like visualization, mnemonic devices, and smartphone apps to help you to learn.
Reading Texts and Taking Notes
This workshop will help you learn from your textbooks and university lectures by introducing a variety of effective pre-lecture reading strategies along with in-class notetaking and post-class techniques. This session will include organizing your reading strategy to make sense of all this new information so that you can be successful in your courses. You will learn how to listen for key points and summarize main ideas, preparing for more meaningful and effective study notes. Find a note-taking strategy to suit you and develop a plan for organizing your notes.
Say No To Procrastination
Why do you postpone doing something? Learn to identify the key factors that make you postpone. Evaluate if the Pomodoro technique may be a part of your solution. We all learn from experiences, so let’s learn how to be better at it! In this workshop, we will discuss strategies you can use to learn from your prior quizzes, tests or midterms. You will learn the skills you need to help you identify what worked and didn’t work, how you addressed the questions, and most importantly what you can do while studying to improve for next time.
Strategies to Increase Your Focus and Attention
Attention barriers can interfere with learning at every stage. In fact, classic studies have shown that immediately after listening, students are likely to recall only half of what was said. This is partly due to particular listening challenges such as divided attention and distractions, the tendency to shut out the message, the inclination to rush to judgment, difficulties processing auditory information or individual learning differences. To create a positive listening environment in both your mind and your surroundings, explore how to manage these challenges.

Basic Computer Skills
New to post-secondary courses? Want to learn how to use the Moodle, manage your files, format your assignments and more? Even though computers seem to be absolutely everywhere, not everybody knows how to use them for academic purposes. In this in-person workshop, we will provide basic computer literacy and skills for students who may be unsure about using computers in an academic setting. This workshop will help to develop basic computer skills and competencies needed for most post-secondary courses.
