What is OPUS?
The Open Publishing Suite (OPUS) collectively refers to a suite of services and tools offered through the partnership of the Library and the Teaching & Learning Commons. OPUS offers support to KPU faculty, instructors, staff, and students to create or adapt open educational resources (OERs), monographs, journal publishing, or making work available online.
To see the range of supports and services offered, explore the image below by clicking on the “+” icons at the various stages of the publishing process. To see a larger view, click on the “expand image” icon in the top right corner of the image.

Working with OPUS
No matter where you are at in your publishing project, OPUS is able to help. Requesting OPUS support begins with a consultation where we discuss your project and the supports, services, and tools you will need. If your project is funded by an OER Grant, we will create a Publishing Agreement to confirm project details and responsibilities.
In addition to individual projects, OPUS supports the following platforms:
- Pressbooks – for monograph (e.g. book, guide, manual) publishing
- Open Journal Systems (OJS) – for journal publishing
- Wordpress – for website publishing
Not sure what tool is best for your project? Check out our Creating OER resource or book a consult.

Accessibility Statement
For OERs to be truly open they must be accessible. In the same way that a free resource does not mean that the resource is open, a resource is not open just because it is available. When OER projects are accessible, they become more:
- inclusive, accounting for different methods, mediums, and modes of engaging with the content
- sustainable, delivering content when tools and technologies break down
- sharable, expanding reach and impact
To encourage accessibility in KPU OER projects, OPUS ensures OER web content is compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) by requiring OER Grant projects comply with BCcampus' Checklist for Accessibility and providing advice and guidance during project planning, conversion to Pressbooks, and doing an Accessibility Assessment before publishing.
