Why Attend Family Orientation?

When adjusting to university life, students must build a support system to help them succeed. What does a healthy support system look like? How much support is enough or too much? How can a family member support a student without intrusion? We'll give you insight to the answers to these questions, and give you a firsthand overview of what post-secondary is like for students in the present day. Our goals are to help you stimulate conversation with your student, increase your awareness of what KPU has to offer your student, and help you and your students understand the post-secondary environment.

The evening will include:

  • A welcome by senior administration at KPU
  • Faculty guest speaker sharing their point of view on how to succeed
  • Breakout sessions for students to learn what to expect from university and families to learn how to support their students
  • A Central Advising presentation on upcoming important information

This event is part of a suite of Orientation programs aimed at helping new students get the best start possible for their first semester. Family Orientation is designed for parents, guardians, and student supporters.  There will be the opportunity for new students to plan their timetable with the help of our academic advisors. New students will be expected to attend a separate (student-only) new student orientation event prior to the start of classes in August 2024.

If you have any questions, or need any event accommodations, please feel free to contact us anytime – we're happy to help! orientation@kpu.ca
